FIDM is a co-educational, specialized, private college dedicated to educating students for the business of merchandising, marketing and development of fashion products, plus fashion design, graphics, interior design and entertainment industries located in the South Park area of Downtown Los Angeles.
Digital Photo Archivist
- Brought on as a part time position, evolved into full time position.
- Brought on to spec out, budget and build an image database server geared to serve a growing internal audience.
- Extended client base from internal users to external users through VPN and web services
- Advise in transition from film photography to digital photography.
- Color correction and retouching, advise staff on best practices of same.
- Responsible for: improving quality of images through understanding of digital images as they relate to print and web applications. Including raising photographic standards in image size and quality
- Increase search and find methodology for system through driving customized nameing system, proper keywording and metadata for images.
- Spec out and budget new equipment.
- Perform live image collection, cataloging, correction and metadata embedding on site for photo shoots and during "Debut" shows, delivering multi-thousand images with on site turnaround.

A small editorial press agency with a broad international reach, selling image-oriented fashion, style and lifestyle photocentric articles to magazines worldwide. Subscribers include Marie Claire, Cosmo, GQ, 25 ANS and Dove. Photos are sent via Cool Hunt database driven website — more than 1,000 images per month.
Technical Lead/Photo Editor (CTO)
- Responsible for: improving quality of images, collection and tracking system and increasing efficiency of web-based delivery system.
- Raised photographic standards in image size and quality—and significantly increased subscriptions.

- Primary product: The Genuine Fractals family of plug-ins to convert bitmapped image data to a wavelet (vector) form, then use fractal math to scale images to large sizes.
- Built products for online photo fulfillment houses such as Snapfish, Shutterfly and Zing and a B2B imaging server for MCI.
- Had affiliations with MCI, Motorola, Kodak, Microsoft and Apple, Corbus and Ofoto.
- Forced to sell company during 2000 turndown, when sales reached $4 million.
Director of Internet Projects (Member of senior management team and founding member)
Conceived the concept of pivotal and important product: Genuine Fractals Family of Products. Product became the ad hoc scaling technology used in the digital photography realm.
- Set standards of quality for next generation technology.
- Determined the course of action for the company in its Internet ventures.
- Example of Special Product Development: Developed "Jarres Box" for Corbus enabling it to monetize library of 250,000 archived historical images that were originally scanned at "too small" resolution. Corbus now sell poster images to public through Ofoto.

Los Angeles Digital Imaging Group - member, board of directors and webmaster
The LADIG (Los Angeles Digital Imaging Group) is dedicated to advancing the art and science of digital imaging in all its forms. The group seeks to provide a forum for the discussion of ideas, techniques and best practices in a casual, networking environment built around regular meetings with presentations from members and guests. LADIG is a non-profit organization, with a staff of volunteers that remains independent from corporate sponsorship to maintain an objective perspective on developing technologies.

Special Project: Five Minute World
On October 12, 2005 at the Mobile Imaging Summit executive conference, a major work of art was created live in front of an audience, in a collaborative process involving over one hundred individuals in countries ranging from Brazil to Indonesia. Entitled “The 5 Minute World”, the project was the brainchild of a team composed of Alexis Gerard, President of Future Image; Rick Smolan, author and creator of the best-selling photography books in history including the Day in the Life and America 24/7 books ; and pioneering digital artist Laurence Gartel.
Provided backend technology to collect and deliver, real time before the audience, images to facilitate this event.
